Site5's Engineering Team is a group of five expert software developers who are responsible for maintenance and development of all the software systems that we use at Site5.
What kinds of things does the Site5 Engineering Team do?
In addition to keeping our many servers humming along at optimal speeds, our Engineering Team is responsible for development of our company's backend billing and customer management system, our control panel and hosting server automation platform and, most importantly, incredible (and totally exclusive!) hosting applications like Flashback. Our Engineering Team has collectively written well over 100,000 lines of code to be used in Site5's business systems in the past year alone!
Doesn't every host have programmers on staff?
Heck no! The hosting industry is based largely around third-party software (such as control panels) that allow web hosts to avoid having to know anything at all about development. The vast majority of web hosts don't employ a single full-time systems engineer--let alone a fearsome team of five!
This isn't just a bunch of sales hype--the Site5 Engineering Team is made up of five of the most intelligent and experienced programmers around. What's more, the team has developed a positive synergy that allows everyone to be ridiculously productive (which is good for us, because they get paid handsomely!).
Ok, I get it, they're brilliant. So where do you find these people?
Top secret genius incubation facilities--but we'll never tell you where they are (*maniacal laugh*).
Really, though, we've found several of the team's members through the Ruby on Rails community (a few of our job openings were posted on the front page news of the official Rails site!).
At the end of the day, the only things Site5 Engineers have in common are: high intelligence, extensive experience with computer systems and, of course, superhuman programming abilities. They're not even required to shower (although we're contemplating reversing that policy due to several awkward situations).
